Dave Roberts - Saxophone
Liverpool-born sax man Dave Roberts has recorded with rock band "Headquarters", played ska in Moss Side and soul with the Toxteth band "Kabasa". He has written, arranged and performed with 18-piece swing outfits such as the Merseyside Big Band and has played in the pit for "Chicago" and other musicals.
Outside music Dave has had three plays broadcast on Radio 4 and a stage play performed by the cast of Liverpool's everyman theatre.
For the past 20 years Dave has specialised in straight-ahead mainstream/modern jazz, leading "Take Six", "Walkin' Shoes" and for the past 10 years "The Dave Roberts Quartet", which plays at jazz clubs and festivals in the North West and Wales.
Dave also plays clarinet, but with Rhythm Zoo he will be featured on tenor and baritone saxophones.
Originally inspired by the Rhythm & Blues sax men, Dave greatly admires the marvellous US jazz musicians who still keep the Blues as an important part of the dynamic improvisations. |
